Collage Works and CVM podcast

CVM:

1

Postmodern, Post-Expressionism, at some point we got to stop adding the word post to things. Art demands a place in our world because we are dealing with such a visual overload of information. We become blind to our reality through overload. It is the artist's duty to critique the visual media they are engorged upon... we are all entrenched in the same hypermediated environments. Billboards dance and jitter with advertisments, holographic images will soon greet us in parks and plazas, and behind it all a staggering abstraction of debt maintaining the illusion. Our only hope of rescue is to reinvent the world, for the superstructure of the old culture to be remained as the scaffolding of the new culture: hence the need for a critical approach to visual media.

CVM artists deal directly with the impact of the images within which we are awash. Outsider art, folk art, postmodernism, neo-expressionism, high art, sculpture... all of it now falls into this great new pool of idea, a new mixing ground from which the future will be grown. Textualism has helped shape not only what this includes but also what it excludes, and the intertextuality of sign and signified that pervades culture cannot be ignored, but rather must be analyzed as the creative spirit wills. To not acknowledge this massive zeitgeist that now holds sway would be to neglect the full impact this current/movement will have if worked with from a conscious perspective.

CVM encompasses only the viewing experience, not the thing in and of itself. Thus all natural and memorable visual experience can be worked with by way of the critique of visual media waypoint/node/access hatch. The critical viewing method (CVM) which can be explained without trinary abstraction is not the true CVM.
